Under the direction of the site administration, performs professional instructional work of moderate difficulty in guiding students toward gaining knowledge and skills in order to become productive citizens; creates a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, establishes effective rapport with students, motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge, and establishes positive relationships with parents and with other school and district staff members.
RESPONSIBILITIESAND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals, communicating clear objectives to all lessons, units, and projects.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interests, and abilities of students; translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available instructional time; provide written evidence of preparation upon supervisor request.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with physical limitations of the location and needs of each student.
- Implement the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives, and performance expectations as outlined in the District's Teacher Evaluation System.
- Identify individual differences in needs, abilities, and interests among students and provide appropriate instruction to meet those differences.
- Employ a variety of classroom assessment techniques to determine instructional needs and to assess student accomplishments; provide progress reports as required; communicate with parents as deemed necessary.
- Administer group standardized tests and proficiency tests in accordance with district testing programs.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students and maintain equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Develop and maintain a classroom code of conduct consistent with established policies; enforce rules of behavior fairly and justly.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes during the scheduled workday when required or requested.
- Plan and participate in professional improvement activities; take advantage of courses, readings, in-service training, and conferences in the teacher’s area of specialization and competency.
- Establish and maintain two‑way communication with parents, students, and other staff members in an honest, positive, and constructive manner.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers; write evaluations as required.
- Supervise students in out-of‑classroom activities on campus; sponsor student activities as appropriate to the grade level; attend school-sponsored activities agreed upon with the building administrator and faculty.
- Fulfill requirements of punctuality, reliability, and responsibility in accordance with school and district policies and regulations.
- Cooperate with other professional staff to assess and help solve health, attitude, and learning problems of students.
- Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision‑making among staff.
- Serve on district committees that develop curriculum and enhance instruction.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESConsiderable knowledge of effective teaching techniques and strategies within the specialized subject area; knowledge of student learning techniques, lesson planning, instructional media, modern assessment methods, interpersonal communication, and stages of child development.
