Qualifications

Required:

  • Meet certification requirements of the Department of Education, State of Iowa
  • K-8 or 5-12 Spanish Endorsement

  • Able to work independently and/or as a team to complete tasks and meet goals
  • Able to prioritize, organize and accomplish assigned work
  • Alternative qualifications acceptable if the board finds them appropriate and acceptable
Essential Functions
  • Plan, evaluate and revise curricula, course content, course materials and methods of instruction in line with the Iowa Core and district curriculum
  • Contribute to the selection of materials and supplies while implementing designated curriculum
  • Employ a variety of instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives
  • Provide effective, developmentally appropriate and differentiated language instruction for diverse learners
  • Provide high quality foreign language instruction that integrates culturally authentic learning
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  • Promote student engagement to inspire and encourage progress while supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities of each student
  • Supervise students' work, evaluate and grade student performance, assignments and progress in language acquisition
  • Follow professional practices consistent with school policies in working with students, students' records, parents and colleges
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in dealings with parents and students
  • Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in a fair and just manner
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence; stay abreast of developments in the foreign language field
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development and serve on committees as required or requested
  • Maintain accurate, complete and appropriate records and files
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Be available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when requested under reasonable terms
  • Provide adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teachers
  • Have regular and reliable attendance
  • Act as an advisor to student organizations
Physical, Mental & Environmental Demands
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Capable of standing for long periods while instructing
  • Able to work with interruptions during a work shift
  • Tobacco and substance free environment
  • Must provide certification of good health prior to employment
Terms of Employment
  • Wage and work year to be established by board policy
  • Employment per Board Policies and Administrative Rules and Regulations
  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with board policy
