Job Description

The mission of the Anoka-Ramsey Academic Advising Office is to empower students to actively seek out resources to successfully complete their educational goals. Academic Advising provides a safe and respectful environment to collaborate with students on course selection, understanding degree requirements, and preparing for degree completion or credit transfer to other academic institutions. Each student is assigned an academic advisor who practices Appreciative Advising methodology.

The Academic Advisor at Anoka-Ramsey Community serves as a member of a professional team providing comprehensive advising services for Anoka-Ramsey Community College students who are:
Clarifying their academic interests, preparing for admission to majors, pursuing declared majors, and changing their academic goals. This position provides leadership and direction for the department, schedule coordination, hiring and training student workers. In collaboration with the Director, this position develops and monitors a comprehensive assessment plan to ensure continuous improvement and serves as an organizational and team lead for assigned academic programs and student populations, ongoing activities, services, and work groups.

This position works effectively with Student Services offices, faculty, and academic departments to meet the goals and objectives of the office, division, and institution as well as participates in program and event development and serves on college committees.

This position will be primarily located on the Rapids campus, with periodic work required at the Cambridge campus. A hybrid schedule with telework opportunities is possible based on department needs

Salary Range:

$25.67 - $37.26/hour

Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of commitment to success of culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development.
  • Ability to learn, understand, explain, and communicate a variety of degree requirements and policies.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of student needs including referrals to internal and external resources.
  • Possess presentation skills to effectively promote and represent the college.
  • Personal computing/technology skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; experience with and comfort utilizing multiple types of technology to provide advising services.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in advising or student services in higher education.
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience working with veterans and military-connected students, including familiarity with veterans benefits and related processes.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience with early alert and/or student success software such as Navigate 360.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and administer multiple activities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Evidence of creating and implementing a variety of training methods.
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field
