Position: Yerington Elementary SPED Resource Teacher 2026/27
Location: Nevada

Special Education Teacher – Self‑Contained, Mild/Moderate Disabilities

Range $50,761–$92,279 annually with Employer‑paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience. Terms of employment: 9 months or 185/189 days. FLSA status:
Non‑Exempt, salaried position assigned to the Licensed Employee Salary Schedule.

Position Summary

The special education teacher establishes goal‑oriented teaching strategies based on proven instructional techniques designed to benefit students with disabilities within a comprehensive life skills program. Instruction covers functional curriculum domains: domestic, vocational, recreational, community, and functional academics. The teacher adheres to LCSD Professional Standards for Licensed Employees, as outlined in policy and the CBA, and reports directly to the school site administrator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow mandated compliance standards established by federal, state, or district regulations relative to program development and implementation.
  • Maintain appropriate student records and submit required reports within designated time limits, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of records and information obtained in professional service, unless disclosure serves a professional purpose or is required by law.
  • Demonstrate acceptable command of the English language in written and oral communication.
  • Carry out clerical duties such as attendance, budgeting of materials, and recording of grades promptly and accurately.
  • Attend and participate in all required training.
  • Manage and assign additional adult student support as necessary, including paraprofessional support.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in Power School.
  • Provide instruction related to functional curriculum domains: domestic, vocational, recreational, community, functional academics.
  • Utilize research‑based instructional methods and materials (e.g., general education curriculum, Edmark, Touch Math, FACTER, LCCE, Syracuse).
  • Provide meaningful, relevant activities for instruction.
  • Ensure instruction occurs in natural settings (e.g., regular education classroom, community based).
  • Use age‑appropriate instructional materials and tasks, differentiated or multi‑leveled instruction, and pre‑planning to make objectives evident.
  • Ensure standards‑based instruction occurs and students are assessed using the most appropriate testing, such as the state alternate assessment.
  • Use instructional adaptations to support student learning (e.g., picture cues, student grouping, cooperative learning, sign language, individualized schedules).
  • Teach functional communication skills and create individualized communication tools (e.g., picture cards, display boards, schedules, sign language, voice output electronic devices, consequence maps).
  • Address student behaviors individually through positive behavioral supports, support plans, or appropriate goals and objectives.
  • Monitor student progress through regular data collection and adjust individual plans as appropriate through annual IEP meetings or more frequently if needed.

  • Work cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration, and community members.
  • Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum and student goals.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives to meet the needs of all students.
  • Participate as a collaborative member with other faculty and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence through continued education and in‑service training.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively in written, oral, and non‑verbal terms.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as may be assigned by the site administrator or supervisor.
