Position: Criminal Justice Instructor/Coordinator GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Location: Estherville

This is a full-time faculty position located on the Estherville Campus. The instructor is responsible for teaching a full-time assignment of Criminal Justice classes as defined by the College. Course teaching assignments may include various delivery formats and locations. Must evaluate and report student performance and progress in assigned courses in accordance with college and division policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF TIME):

Constant (67-100%)

* Effectively organize, teach, and evaluate student performance and progress in assigned course offerings in accordance with established syllabi.

* Evaluate, report, and record student performance, enrollment and completion data, and student progress according to college and department guidelines.

* Create, maintain, and review course syllabi and course outcomes for all courses taught.

* Organize and manage all college Criminal Justice facilities.

* Assist with the recruitment and orientation of students in the Criminal Justice program.

* Maintain established office hours.

* Coordinate and communicate regularly with all members of the Criminal Justice adjunct instructors and the college Administration.

Frequent (34-66%)

* Attend and serve on assigned and voluntary programs and College committees.

* Assist in implementing the marketing plan for the recruiting of interested students to the Criminal Justice program in cooperation with the Admissions Office.

* Assist in the development of new courses and revisions of existing courses in the Criminal Justice program area to ensure continued program growth and development.

* Arrange lab sites for student practical experiences and monitor progress.

* Maintain communication with and organize required meetings of the Program Advisory Board.

* Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of the Criminal Justice program.

Occasional (10-33%)

* Regularly engage in professional development activities and keep current with developing trends and ideas in profession.

* Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classroom/laboratory/firearms range.

* Assist in providing professional development for peace officers and function as a liaison person with law enforcement.

* Assist the Dean in the budgeting process.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

* Represent the College in a most positive, professional manner to employees, students, visitors, and the general public.

* Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.

* Present oneself in a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies, and practices.

* Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgement when making decisions.

* Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, administrators, and other contacts.

* Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.

* Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities.

* Be a creative, energetic, and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.

* Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.

* Work effectively as a member of a cooperative team.

SPECIAL DEMANDS:

Sedentary to light work. Position involves sitting most of the time in an office or classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and carrying. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds of force frequently. May be required to travel between campuses utilizing personal vehicle.
