Job SummaryUnder the guidance of site administration, assists a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment; assists in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans, curriculum and teaching methodologies; provides routine clerical support.
Responsibilities and Essential FunctionsAssist individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher; monitor student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects; confer with the teacher concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs.
Assist students with reading program activities; motivate students to improve reading and writing; read books to students and observe their reading abilities; assist with letter and word pronunciation and recognition; reinforce reading instruction including phonics, vocabulary and comprehension; assist with spelling, math and writing exercises and assignments.
Assist students in completing assignments, homework, make up work, and projects; adapt activities and materials under the direction of the teacher as needed; assist students with instructional technology; ensure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures; provide support and guidance.
Observe and control behavior of students according to approved procedures; monitor students during outdoor, lunch, library, and recess; accompany students on field trips and to/from bus stops; assist in yard duty; monitor and report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
Perform clerical duties such as preparing, typing, duplicating, filing instructional materials; maintain student records, notes, and files.
Provide classroom support by setting up computers, audio‑visual equipment, work areas, bulletin boards, and distributing and collecting supplies; assemble student booklets.
Arrange and store classroom materials, furniture and accessories for an appropriate learning environment; maintain health and safety of students by following established practices; maintain learning environment orderly and clean.
Communicate with faculty, staff, administrators to resolve issues related to student activities and behavior; operate classroom and office equipment including computer, copier, laminator; report observations and incidents; respond to emergency situations.
Assist with test preparation; administer and proctor tests such as CELDT, ADEPT, or others as assigned.
Supervise students in playground, cafeteria, lunch area, classroom, restrooms, and hallways to observe and ensure safe behavior.
Effectively manage students under supervision, enforce school rules and district policies.
Guide students in developing desirable social skills and habits; ensure general welfare and safety; report accidents and hazardous conditions to site administration.
Attend meetings and in‑services as assigned.
