School Accompanist – Middle School & High School Choir Position Summary

The School Accompanist provides piano accompaniment and musical support for middle school and high school choir programs. This position works collaboratively with the choir director to support rehearsals, concerts, contests, and other vocal music activities throughout the school year.

Reports To: Choir Director / Building Principal Position Type: Part-Time / Seasonal Estimated

Hours:

Approximately 30 hours per semester. Hours are subject to change and may increase during the spring semester due to Large Group and Solo/Ensemble Contest preparation and performances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide piano accompaniment for middle school and high school choir rehearsals and performances.
  • Accompany students and ensembles for concerts, festivals, contests, and special events.
  • Assist with music preparation and rehearsal support as directed by the choir director.
  • Work with individual students or small groups during Solo/Ensemble contest season.
  • Attend scheduled rehearsals, performances, and related music department events.
  • Collaborate professionally with choir staff, students, and school administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold school policies and professional standards.
Qualifications
  • Strong piano performance and sight-reading skills required.
  • Experience accompanying choirs and/or vocal soloists preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with middle school and high school students.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Previous school accompanist or music education experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to attend evening performances or events as scheduled.
Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on experience and district guidelines.

Schedule

The schedule will vary throughout the school year based on rehearsal and performance needs. Choir rehearsals generally take place in the afternoon. Additional hours are anticipated during the spring contest season, including preparation for Large Group and Solo/Ensemble events.
