Position Summary: The 9–12 Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in a high school setting. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education staff, and ensuring that all students have access to a meaningful and appropriately challenging curriculum. The ideal candidate is student‑centered, collaborative, and committed to helping all learners achieve success both academically and in preparation for post‑secondary life.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Provide direct instruction in both resource and inclusive classroom settings based on student needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum, modify instruction, and support inclusive practices
- Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction accordingly
- Conduct formal and informal assessments to inform instructional decisions and document student growth
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports, IEP updates, and compliance records
- Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings, including communication with families and multidisciplinary team members
- Support the development of students’ academic, social, and behavioral skills
- Implement behavior intervention plans and provide support for students with behavioral needs
- Prepare students for post‑secondary transition, including college, career, and independent living skills
- Communicate regularly and effectively with students, families, and staff
- Serve as a case manager for assigned students
- Valid teaching license with endorsement in Special Education (or ability to obtain)
- Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education compliance requirements
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Experience with behavior management strategies and intervention planning preferred
- Commitment to building positive relationships with students and families
- Experience in a high school special education setting
- Familiarity with inclusive practices and co‑teaching models
- Ability to use data to drive instruction and decision‑making
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Student‑focused mindset with a belief in growth and potential for all learners
