Position Summary

To fully support the mission of Northeast Iowa Community College through the functions of teaching, service and scholarship. To provide effective instruction to ensure academic programming attains student learning outcomes and prepares students for successful transition into the workforce or transfer to a post‑secondary institution. To carry out assigned responsibilities to ensure academic programs are sustainable and aligned with accreditation standards.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in the content area of instruction or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the content area of instruction.

Primary courses taught will be scheduled onsite face‑to‑face. Course delivery may include daytime, evenings, and/or weekends.

Must meet minimum experience and education requirements as outlined by the Iowa Code sections 260C.47 and 260C.48 and the Northeast Iowa Community College Quality Faculty Plan.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
As specified by the department dean or director.

The candidate must have strong leadership ability, excellent communication skills, and must be ethical, honest, and objective. Experience with and aptitude for working with representatives from business, industry, education, and other agencies in the identification of vocational and general education programming to meet the needs of the department and the college. Ability to assimilate data and to organize presentations for individuals and groups.

Skilled in short‑term and long‑range planning. Committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Commitment and willingness to participate fully in quality improvement at the personal, departmental, and institutional levels. Demonstrated ability to teach in a face‑to‑face format.

Duties and Responsibilities

Remain current with methods, content and technology in the content area.

Possess the expertise to deliver courses in multiple formats; face‑to‑face, online, hybrid.

Complete delegated teaching assignment in accordance with guidelines/expectations for teaching methodology.

Meet all class, office and college commitments.

Participate as a representative on secondary and post‑secondary program advisory boards when available.

Support ongoing process of course, curriculum and program evaluation.

Participate in curriculum and course alignment discussions with all faculty teaching the course.

Evidenced commitment to the assessment of student learning.

Follow assessment activity timeline/deadlines.
Incorporate assessment activities in the instructional content.
Facilitate collaboration among all faculty teaching in the program/course to ensure course content and embedded assessments are consistent.

Maintain a classroom environment that supports student engagement, retention and completion.

Utilize instructional methods that require student engagement and collaboration.
Provide feedback, assessments and grades according to prescribed guidelines.
Ensure the classroom environment provides respect for diversity and individual viewpoints.
Emphasize to all students the importance of prompt and regular class attendance.
Provide persistent outreach to students not attending class or meeting class requirements.
Initiate referrals for identified at‑risk student behaviors.

Assist in the placement and success of students.

Incorporate authentic learning into courses and programs.
Engage with students in co‑curricular activities through participation on a minimum of one co‑curricular committee.
Reinforce career pathway leading to workforce placement and/or transfer upon graduation.

Meet roles and responsibilities as delegated by program accreditation bodies.
