Education Technology Specialist (ETS)Summary
Description:
Under supervision, assists staff in a variety of instructional activities, basic level technical issues, school technology inventory, and in the supervision of students in the computer lab. Incumbent performs related work as required.
Exemplary
Duties / Responsibilities:
Assists staff and students in a variety of technology related issues and activities, including but not limited to installing software/updates, imaging computers, performing password resets and facilitating school's IT work orders; assists in presenting new software to students and staff using a variety of teaching methods; assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments and projects; reinforces learning concepts; confers with classroom teachers about student progress;
organizes software according to teachers' needs; provides basic technical support for computers, printers, interactive whiteboards, etc.; supports teachers with district-approved curriculum software and district-supported productivity software; reports and submits work orders for inoperative equipment; prints students' writing and art work; customizes media to meet teachers' particular needs; distributes and collects classroom materials and prepares computer lab for use; orders supplies and equipment;
maintains student and attendance records; maintains computer lab bulletin boards; observes progress and problem areas of students for teacher referral; assists in maintaining safety and discipline of students; enforces school rules and regulations; assists in support of district and site-based computer applications; manages school technology inventory; works with assessment about SBAC duties.
Employment Standards:
Education and Experience: Any experience equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Typical ways to obtain the knowledge and skills include:
- Education:
Equivalent to a high school diploma. Some education (e.g., college coursework, workshops, seminars) in computer operations is desirable. - Experience:
One (1) year of experience in computer support and student instructional activities, particularly in educational software.
To work at a Title I designated school, applicants must have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and have completed the following:
- Completed at least 48 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university; or
- Obtained an associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or
- Passed the Para Pro Assessment with a score of at least 460.
Knowledge: Educational principles and techniques; student behavior and characteristics; basic discipline techniques; correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; basic mathematics; basic computer concepts; file management; basic security; general computer and peripheral use; MS Office competency desirable.
Skill At: Assisting in instruction of students in computer operations; securing and maintaining the confidence and cooperation of students and teachers; establishing effective relationships; problem identification and resolution; evaluating situations accurately; preparing records; operating instructional software; understanding written instructions.

Certifications:
Incumbent must possess, or receive within two (2) years, the ETS Academy Certification covering file management, media resources, processes and procedures, ETS components, ETS applications, MS Office (Word, PowerPoint), interactive whiteboards, and ETS security.
Physical Demands: Sedentary work; occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items; occasional driving; no special demands. May need to move monitors or CPU and perform recess duties.
Work Environment: Requires normal safety precautions in offices, training rooms, libraries, or vehicles; watch for trips and falls, observe fire regulations; adequately lighted, heated, ventilated.
