Join our team at the Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus located in beautiful Sullivan, Maine. Our amazing school is located approximately 15 minutes east of Ellsworth, and 40 miles east of Bangor. In addition, we are just a short drive to Bar Harbor and the beautiful Acadia National Park. Our school is currently home to approximately 160 students in grades 6 through 8.

Our mission is to empower students to navigate diverse environments and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • Valid Maine Teacher Certification in Visual Arts (K–12) or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Current Maine Department of Education (MDOE) Criminal History Records Check.
  • Experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) program is preferred.
  • Strong classroom management skills and a passion for project-based, student-centered learning.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging visual arts instruction aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
  • Teach a range of media and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and digital art.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs and artistic abilities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes creativity, collaboration, and confidence.
  • Implement PBIS strategies to encourage positive behavior and maintain a structured, respectful learning space.
  • Utilize the BARR program to build strong relationships with students and support their academic and social‑emotional development.
  • Organize and display student artwork within the school and at community events or exhibitions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across content areas and participate in interdisciplinary projects.
  • Integrate technology into instruction to enhance student learning and creative expression.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with families.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in arts education.
