childcare provider

childcare providers support the supervision and care of students—including those that may or may not be receiving special education services at various school sites and community locations. These services are typically provided during parent university workshops or events.

essential duties/responsibilities core responsibilities
  • plan, coordinate, and lead engaging activities for children.
  • prepare and distribute materials and set up audio‑visual equipment.
  • supervise children in various settings including:
  • playgrounds
  • school halls
  • libraries
  • enforce school rules and maintain discipline in a fair and positive manner.
  • serve as a role model for good sportsmanship and leadership.
  • develop rapport with students and families to foster a supportive environment.
  • assist children with meals and refreshments (e.g., breakfast/dinner).
  • sanitize toys, play equipment, and maintain a clean, safe environment.
inclusive support for students with special needs
  • engage with all students, including those receiving special education services.
  • support students with cognitive, physical, or emotional/behavioral disabilities (ages 3‑12).
  • assist students based on their individualized education programs (ieps).
  • modify activities to ensure accessibility and participation for all children.
  • provide emergency and first aid care as needed.
  • be physically capable of moving students weighing 50‑80 pounds.
behavioral and safety management
  • implement non‑violent behavioral intervention procedures.
  • monitor and ensure the safety and hygiene of children in care.
  • maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
communication and problem solving
  • communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
  • analyze situations accurately and take appropriate action.
  • interpret and explain district policies and procedures as they relate to the role.
event and curriculum support (e.g., university of nevada, reno events)
  • organize and manage learning center supplies.
  • prepare and facilitate developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum.
  • create a learning environment that supports multiple learning styles.
  • facilitate learning centers that encourage exploration and discovery.
  • manage classroom behavior and implement interventions when necessary.
professional development
  • participate in district training programs as requested.
  • stay current with best practices in childcare and behavioral support.
qualifications

education/experience: any experience equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

  • a high school diploma is desirable.

a minimum of six (6) months of experience working with pre‑school and school‑age youth is desirable, or any experience that would demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities.

licenses/certificates: possession of, or ability to obtain cpr certification.

special considerations

this on‑call position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include evening hours. This is an on‑call position, working at various schools or in the community during regular school hours, evening hours as well as weekends. Childcare would be provided for children from age 3 through middle school. No diaper changes.
