Location: Madrid, Iowa
Position Type: Full-Time | 12-Month Administrative Contract
Madrid Community School District is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and student‑centered Curriculum & Special Education Director to provide district leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, and special education programming. This position serves a key role in supporting instructional excellence, ensuring compliance, and promoting equitable outcomes for all students. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and relationship builder who can lead district initiatives while supporting staff, students, and families across all levels.
CurriculumLeadership Responsibilities
- Lead district curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation efforts.
- Support instructional practices aligned to district goals and Iowa Academic Standards.
- Coordinate district assessment systems and facilitate data‑informed decision making.
- Design and support professional development opportunities for staff.
- Collaborate with administrators and teacher leaders to improve instructional outcomes.
- Oversee curriculum review cycles and instructional resource adoption.
- Support MTSS, instructional interventions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor compliance with state academic requirements and reporting.
- Assist with strategic planning and district improvement efforts.
- Provide leadership and oversight of district special education services and programming.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Iowa special education regulations, and district policies.
- Support IEP development, implementation, and procedural requirements.
- Supervise and evaluate special education staff.
- Collaborate with administrators, AEA staff, teachers, and families to support student success.
- Monitor student achievement and support inclusive educational practices.
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, caseload management, and program planning.
- Coordinate due process procedures and maintain required documentation.
- Manage department budgets and applicable grant funding.
- Provide guidance and training regarding special education processes and best practices.
- Experience leading curriculum development, instructional improvement, and professional learning preferred.
- Strong understanding of standards‑based instruction and assessment practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives and build staff capacity.
- Experience in special education leadership or program oversight preferred.
- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Iowa special education requirements.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaborative leadership skills.
- Valid Iowa administrative license issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
- Iowa Supervisor Endorsement
- Iowa Special Education Supervisor Endorsement
- Iowa Evaluator Approval / Evaluator License required
