Qualifications- Meet Certification requirements of the Department of Education, State of Iowa.
- Need to obtain required training (Evaluator, Child Abuse Reporting, Bloodborne Pathogen)
- Documented ability to relate to students
- Documented building level experience preferred
- Documented ability to work with others
- Documented aptitude for the work to be performed to include knowledge of effective teaching behavior, district curriculum, current trends and issues, technology, and leadership skills
Provides instructional leadership, encourages student achievement, and supervises and evaluates all personnel. Plans, implements, and evaluates district and building programs collaboratively. Manages the building and all resources and assumes total responsibility to manage all activities of the building.
Basic ResponsibilitiesTo be responsible for the supervision of instruction and the implementation of educational programs and the implementation of the Building Improvement Plan.
- To participate in the Special Education program for students in the building.
- To identify, collect, and process data to develop and revise the Building Improvement Plan.
- To evaluate the performance of staff and recommend continuation and/or termination of staff.
- To implement and carry out the negotiated contracts with all personnel.
- To work with appropriate District administrators in the selection and assignment of building personnel.
- To be responsible for students and staff and their schedules.
- To be responsible for the security of pupils and staff and develop procedures to promote the security of school property and equipment.
- To be responsible for working with the custodial staff in the safety, cleanliness, and proper maintenance and operation of the building, including energy conservation.
- To develop effective disciplines and a positive school and classroom climate.
- To be responsible for budget requests for the building and for the receipt, care, and inventory of equipment, furniture, and supplies for the school.
- To oversee the coordination of the school’s extracurricular programs, as appropriate.
- To maintain effective relations with parents and community groups, develop and interpret goals, objectives, and programs to parents and the community.
- To organize and coordinate staff meetings.
- To represent the school to external groups, accreditation agencies, Department of Education, and others as needed or directed.
- To supervise preparation and maintenance of attendance and other records required by Administration, the Board of Education, and Department of Education, and submit required reports on a timely basis.
- To participate in state educational activities relating to the improvement of education for students and staff.
- To interpret Board of Education and administrative office policies and procedures to staff; represent staff concerns and needs affecting the operation of school to Administration.
- To maintain current knowledge of developments and practices in educational leadership.
- To develop and maintain an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel.
- To maintain a continuing program of staff development and training to develop a competent workforce.
- To use computers/technology where appropriate in completing assigned duties.
- To be well organized and professional in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.
- To maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, parents and the community.
- To treat all students, faculty, and staff courteously and to cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co‑workers and other personnel.
- To dress appropriately for the position and work required.
- To demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job and to communicate the same to the community.
- To accept constructive criticism and suggestions and to seek to improve performance responsibly.
- To maintain confidentiality in the school operation.
- To adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.
- To have the ability to deal with a diversity of people.
- To demonstrate ability to work under stress.
