Job Description

TITLE: Agricultural Science, Technology, and Marketing Instructor (AST&M) (Agricultural Education Instructor)

REPORTS TO: High School Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

Certificate with endorsement for general or agriculture.
Bachelor's Degree in agriculture or agricultural education.

JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

To promote and provide a quality instructional program throughout the year in agribusiness and production agriculture to all interested students regardless of sex, age, race, national origin, ethnic background, religious affiliation, or special needs.
To provide practical instruction to students through agricultural experiences in production agriculture and/or agribusiness and recognize the seasonal nature of agriculture and provide continuity of instruction.
To provide individualized, small group and/or large group instruction and/or guidance to the FFA program on a year round basis.
To organize and properly utilize an advisory committee to actively assist with evaluating the ag education program using the CTE, workplace learning and district standards for a high quality agricultural education programs.
To prepare and use a variety of teaching methods and techniques in providing a quality instructional program involving meaningful student activities.
To evaluate a student's classroom, laboratory, and CTE performances and progress.
To utilize community resources for individual and group projects which strengthen the concept of learning by doing.
To keep abreast of current agricultural and education developments through in-service, field days, conferences, publications, audio-visual materials, co-workers in agriculture and education, professional organizations, and community resources.
To procure, maintain, update, and inventory materials, equipment, and facilities.
To organize the Ag education department equipment, supplies, and resource materials for a neat appearing, safe, and an efficient Ag education department.
To maintain quality classroom management through fairness, firmness, consistency, and approved instructional techniques. Furthermore, to require good behavior of students involved in all FFA activities.
To provide guidance and counseling to students regarding their personal concerns, career choices, education and SAE program development.
To utilize several FFA activities in the instructional program for occupational competency, leadership, cooperation, and citizenship development.
To develop strong public relations within the school and community.
To provide evidence of accountability for utilization of time and accomplishment of objectives by completing state and local reports and by keeping local school officials properly informed.
To cooperate with school administrators and fellow employees by sharing system wicked responsibility for extra duties beyond the regular agricultural education/FFA program.

EMPLOYMENT & EVALUATION

EMPLOYMENT: Ten, eleven, or twelve months a year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
