High School Special Education Teacher (Strategist I)

Ames Community School District – West Fork Community School District, Rockwell, Iowa.

Job Description

Special Education (Strategist I) Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. Responsibilities include enhancing academic performance, delivering instruction for diverse learners, classroom management, IEP responsibilities, collaboration, and professional growth.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Enhance academic performance of students.
  • Demonstrate content knowledge appropriate to teaching position.
  • Plan and prepare instruction.
  • Use strategies to deliver instruction that meets multiple learning needs.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies.
  • Fulfill all IEP responsibilities: timely progress monitoring, use data to guide instruction.
  • Collaborate with other educational professionals.
  • Engage in professional growth.
Qualifications
  • Valid Iowa teaching license.
  • Special Education Strategist I endorsement or willingness to obtain required endorsement.
  • Special Education Strategist I and Strategist II: BD/LD endorsements preferred.

  • Physical stamina: bend, lift, sit on floor, run short distances, assist physically active students.
  • Understanding of diverse student needs and ability to relate to children with varying academic and behavioral needs.
