Role

The Certified Teacher is an exempt key member of an administrative team that works together to support the mission and values of the Child Development Center programs. The Certified Teacher reports to the Director of Child Development Centers and works closely with the Classroom Educators to ensure all functions of this job description are fulfilled. The certified teacher is responsible for carrying out the educational program of the centers, providing care to the children, planning and implementing classroom curriculum, setting up a daily schedule of classroom activities that are developmentally appropriate and that take into account individual children’s needs, collecting and maintaining files on each child with medical, financial and CACFP, as well as curriculum information, and providing direction to the Classroom Educators in assigned areas.

  • 192 working/classroom days in the school year.
  • 2 personal days off and 15 sick days to use at the Director’s discretion.
  • Compensation according to the school district salary scale, based on education and years of experience, and child enrollment.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide 10 hours of direct teaching and 10 hours of planning time per 20 students totaling 20 hours per week.
  • Follow a combination of Creative Curriculum and High Scope Curriculum, and Child Observation Record Assessment Tool.
  • Participate in 15 hours of professional development approved by the Director of Child Development Center.
  • Spend four (4) half days observing another Preschool Initiative classroom.
  • Provide each family with two (2) conferences.
  • Provide at least one (1) home visit during the school year to each family.
  • Complete COR assessment as necessary.
  • Participate in all staff development required by the State.
  • Participate in quarterly trainings with Preschool Initiative Administration.
  • Provide opportunities for the families to participate in a minimum of 15 hours of family involvement activities to include two family/community events.
  • Assume responsibility for the care and supervision of the children in the room throughout the day.
  • Develop and implement classroom activities and field trips outside the classroom and the supervision of such. This includes planning with appropriate staff and assigning duties, informing of schedule, and assisting with all of these.
  • Do group teaching and work individually with the children.
  • Provide staff supervision, including preparing and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Monitor program areas to ensure compliance with all standards and quality initiatives. Report any deviation immediately to the program Director and take steps to correct any area necessary.
  • Supervise children on walks, field trips, etc. and watch them in the bathroom in accordance with accreditation regulations.
  • Observe children each morning for health inspection.
  • Take turns watching children with Classroom Educators during naptime or use time to prepare lesson plans, activities, or handwork and to complete necessary records.
  • Administer approved medication to the children with signed parental consent if medical management approved.
  • Observe children and record anecdotal information.
  • Report pertinent information to the Director of Child Development Center concerning children and staff.
  • Work in coordination with the Director of Child Development Center to hire, train, mentor and supervise all classroom staff.
  • Inform parents of any important matters concerning their children (following discussion with the Director of Child Development Center).
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to parent concerns, involving teachers, administrators, families or external support personnel as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for the care and maintenance of the classroom, equipment, and materials and make sure everything is left in proper order at the end of the day, doors and windows locked, room cleaned, etc.
