Special Education Para educator Aide II – 1:1 Early Childhood (15 hrs/wk., 180 days)

Under supervision, the Para educator Aide assists teachers in a special education classroom, providing individual or group assistance based on student functional living and academic needs. The aide may also deliver attendant services to students with intellectual and/or physical disabilities and perform related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe role may be assigned to a variety of special education programs, including Comprehensive Life Skills (CLS), Early Childhood (EC), Multi-Age (MA), Social Intervention Programs (SIP), Strategies for Autism Spectrum Disorders, Social Resource classrooms, or as one‑on‑one support. As a Title I school staff member, the aide must be highly qualified and may act as a liaison between general and special education teachers, preview instructional content, and attend professional development.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist students with intellectual, physical, or behavioral disabilities in boarding and de‑boarding buses, reaching school locations, and traveling to general education classrooms.
- Provide attendant services such as diapering, toileting, washing faces, dispensing medication when trained, and supporting health and hygiene habits.
- Move students weighing 50-80 pounds daily, following proper safety procedures.
- Support instruction in functional life skills, basic education curriculum, and modify classroom assignments when appropriate.
- Follow individualized behavior plans and employ positive behavior management techniques.
- Accompany students on field trips and coordinate wheelchairs, oxygen hoses, and other equipment.
- Communicate observations to special education teachers and maintain student confidentiality.
- Assist with instructional materials, record student progress, prepare graphs and charts, and modify the general education curriculum as needed.
- Participate in district training and implement non‑violent behavioral intervention procedures.
- Assist with classroom equipment and assistive technology devices.
- Assist in record‑keeping and determine student progress toward IEP goals.
- Deliver developmentally appropriate curriculum covering literacy, math readiness, motor skills, self‑help, communication, and social skills.
- Provide opportunities for cognitive and language development in classroom settings.
- Serve students with behavioral challenges in a small group setting.
- Apply social‑emotional practices and data collection to support behavior change.
- Focus on communication and social‑emotional skills using intensive, small‑group instruction.
- Use visual supports, augmented communication tools, and data‑based decision making.
Other applicable programs include Integrated Kindergarten (IK), CLS, SIP, and Social Resource classes; duties in these settings will follow program‑specific practices.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS- Any education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying, including relevant classroom support experience.
- Knowledge and skills in educational principles, student behavior, discipline, hygiene, basic math, office procedures, and communication strategies.
- Ability to lift students weighing 50-80 pounds and use positive behavior reinforcement.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a CPI Certification.
- Minimum: 18 years, high school diploma or GED.

Grade 15:
Sch A $13.49 (entry step);
Sch B $16.21 (entry step). Salaries may be adjusted each fiscal year based on district policies.
