Anticipated High School Science Teacher

The Interstate 35 Community School is seeking a candidate to join our high school team for the  school year. The role focuses on delivering engaging, standards‑aligned instruction for physical science and biology, maintaining a positive classroom environment, and collaborating with colleagues and parents.

Responsibilities
  • Knowledge/

    Skills:

    • Strong content knowledge in high school science subjects, including physical science and biology.
    • Ability to use data to inform instructional decisions and differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
    • Effective communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
  • Instructional Delivery:
    • Design, implement, and assess engaging lesson plans that align with Iowa Core Standards for high school science.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including hands‑on activities, laboratory experiments, and technology, to accommodate different learning styles.
    • Foster scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters mutual respect and collaboration.
    • Develop and enforce classroom rules and behavioral expectations in alignment with school and district policies.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Continually monitor and evaluate student progress through formal and informal assessments.
    • Provide timely and measurable feedback on student work and maintain accurate records of grades and attendance.
    • Communicate student progress to parents and guardians regularly.
  • Collaboration and Professional Growth:
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues, specialists, and support staff to enhance the overall educational experience.
    • Participate in professional learning communities, faculty meetings, and ongoing professional development activities.
Qualifications

License to teach high school science, ability to sustain engagement deep into the school day, and readiness to contribute to a collaborative learning community.
