Position: SPECIAL EDUCATION PARA EDUCATOR - 6 HRS

Job Description

WAGES: $18.93. New Hires:
Entry level rate $14.93/hr this special education position meets the $4.00 Special Education Differential pay.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide research‑based social skills instruction and intervention under the supervision of a certified teacher.
  • Attend any required evening training or meetings during the school year or summer.
  • Accept feedback from specialists and facilitators and incorporate it into instruction.
  • Follow directives of the classroom teacher, building administration, and district administration.
  • Work with students who exhibit explosive behavior and physical or verbal aggression.
  • Provide services for special education students in special or general education settings.
  • Assist with academic support, behavior interventions, social skills, and daily living skills under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Attend field trips with students as necessary.
  • Ensure regular attendance to meet IEP services and provide FAPE.
  • Analyze situations and respond appropriately.
  • Interact appropriately with all students and support a diverse student body.
  • Serve as a team player in classroom, cafeteria, hallway, and other areas.
  • Accompany students to and from the bus, restroom, physical education, community and building work sites, and general education classes.
  • Supervise students in the classroom, lunch/breakfast, building, field trips, work sites, and out‑of‑classroom activities.
  • Assist with hygiene needs, changing clothes, toileting, diapering, and safety on excursions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Maintain flexible daily schedule and adapt to changing assignments.
  • Support the multi‑tiered system of support (MTSS) for behavior and academics.
  • Follow multiple behavior plans and implement changes when directed.
  • Collect data accurately and complete necessary paperwork promptly.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing stairs, walking long distances, and navigating the city bus system.
  • Use crisis prevention intervention strategies, including appropriate restraint procedures.
  • Remain calm and respectful in crisis situations.
  • Engage with team planning and collaborative work.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.
Physical Requirements of Position

Employee must sit, stand, speak, hear, see, walk, occasionally lift, move or push items up to 50 lbs, supervise students in all types of weather, meet multiple demands, and interact with public and staff. Must implement crisis prevention intervention strategies and appropriate restraint procedures.

Work Environment

Noise level ranges from quiet to loud. Work may be indoors or outdoors, in non‑air‑conditioned rooms. Tobacco and alcohol‑free environment. Fast‑paced contact with students, staff, and public. Direct responsibility for student safety and well‑being.

  • Ability to work with students with significant academic, behavior, and social skills difficulties.
  • Genuine care and concern for all students and willingness to help them succeed.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directives of certified staff.
