High School Math Teacher
The High School Mathematics Teacher delivers standards-based instruction in mathematics for students in grades 9-12. The teacher promotes mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and quantitative literacy to support student success across academic and real-world contexts. The Mathematics Teacher designs engaging lessons, evaluates student progress, and collaborates with colleagues to provide a supportive and rigorous learning environment.
Essential duties and responsibilities include planning and delivering high-quality mathematics instruction aligned with district curriculum, state standards, and best practices in secondary math education. Teach courses such as Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and/or Statistics using a variety of instructional strategies. Develop students' conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application of mathematical practices. Prepare instructional materials, assessments, and learning resources that support student understanding and skill development.
Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instruction and provide targeted feedback to students. Communicate regularly with students, families, teachers, and counselors regarding academic progress and classroom expectations. Maintain accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and performance data. Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote a positive and productive learning environment. Provide instructional accommodations and modifications as required by IEPs, 504 plans, or individual learning needs.
Integrate technology, graphing tools, and digital resources to enhance instruction and support student engagement. Support students during assessments, classroom activities, and school-wide events as needed. Participate in required meetings, professional development, and district trainings. Promote and adhere to district policies, procedures, and professional standards of conduct.
Education and related work experience include a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field required. Experience teaching or working with high school students is preferred. A state of Iowa teaching license with a Mathematics endorsement is required.
