Junior High Girls Wrestling Coach

The Louisa-Muscatine Community School District is seeking a Junior High Girls Wrestling Coach for the 2026-27 school year. Louisa-Muscatine Schools is located along the Mississippi River south of Muscatine, Iowa. Our district serves the communities of Grandview, Letts, Fruitland, Cranston, and Muscatine and has approximately 850 students.

Qualifications
  • Develop and lead the girls wrestling program, working with the High School Head Girls Wrestling Coach and the Activities Director.
  • Assist with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques.
  • Hold an appropriate state coaching or activities supervision certificate. Persons must possess a license issued through the Board of Educational Examiners.
  • Possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
  • Good attendance and human relations skills are essential.
Skills
  • Knowledge of overall athletic program operations.
  • Current state coaching/activities supervision certification if not a certificated teacher.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
Other Requirements
  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Performs any other duties assigned by the activities director, building principal, or other appropriate administrator.

Reports To: Activities Director, Building Principal

Job Goal: To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their athletic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the head coach and activities director.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
  • Assess players’ skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keep the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
  • Assist with determining game strategy.
  • Assist the Activities Director with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Model sportsman-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators.
  • Maintain the equipment/weight room in orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security.
  • Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the Activities Director.
  • Assist the Activities Director with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  • Participate in special activities to include parents’ nights, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
  • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
