Special Education Teacher (CLS/Autism) – 1 Year Only

TITLE: Special Education Classroom Teacher – Comprehensive Life Skills / Autism
Location: Scarselli Elementary School
Reports To: Site Administrator and/or Executive Director of Inclusive Education
Term: Minimum 186 days/year
Salary Range: $53,300 – $90,075 (+ 1 day) – Licensed Personnel Salary Schedule

Under the direction of the site administration, perform moderate‑difficulty instructional work to guide students toward gaining knowledge and skills to become productive citizens. Teach academic, affective, behavioral, prevocational and vocational subjects and life skills to eligible students with handicaps in school, community, and home settings, adapting techniques and methods to meet individual needs.

• Plan curriculum, prepare lessons and arrange materials based on the Individual Education Plan (IEP); meet state and federal IEP mandates.
• Instruct students in academic, affective, prevocational/vocational, and life skills based on IEPs.
• Deliver services in collaboration with regular and special education specialists.
• Confer with staff to facilitate learning in a least restrictive environment.
• Administer aptitude and achievement tests and interpret results.
• Observe, evaluate, and maintain records and reports on student progress.
• Support program improvement through training and piloting initiatives.
• Chair IEP meetings and oversee development and implementation.
• Configure appropriate continuum of services based on student needs.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times.
• Guide learning toward district curriculum goals and communicate clear objectives.
• Create a conducive classroom environment aligned with student maturity and abilities.
• Employ varied instructional techniques and media aligned with physical limitations and student capabilities.
• Assess and report student accomplishments regularly.
• Maintain accurate, complete records in compliance with policy.
• Ensure safety of students and equipment.
• Develop classroom conduct code consistent with administrative policies.
• Be available to students and parents during scheduled workdays when required.
• Participate in professional development activities.
• Communicate with parents, students, and staff constructively.
• Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers.
• Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities and campus events.
• Maintain punctuality, reliability, and responsibility per district policies.
• Collaborate with staff to address health, attitude, and learning issues.
• Attend building and district meetings to promote communication.
• Serve on district committees that develop curriculum.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

Collaborate closely with the Director of Inclusive Education, school administration, psychologists, counselors, speech pathologists, health services personnel, consultants, special and regular education teachers, and frequent contact with students, parents, and school personnel.

Knowledge of effective teaching techniques, student learning strategies, lesson planning, instructional media, classroom assessment, IDEA requirements, communication, and child development stages. Ability to perform complex tasks, upgrade skills as needed, operate classroom equipment, plan, manage projects, maintain records, and use software.
