- Biology Department - FY 2027 Job Description
We are looking for a qualified candidate to assist in day-to-day herbarium operations. Tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Mounting and databasing incoming specimens and filing them to increase the size of the research collection.
- Pulling specimens from the collection needed for use in various Botany and Biology classes (including BIOL 120, 122, 331, and 400) as well as for visiting researchers requesting specific specimens.
- Sorting specimens based on instructor need, such as for use in quizzes or in-class examples.
- Updating the taxonomy of the collection to reflect more modern sources, particularly the taxonomic system followed in BIOL 331
- Interacting with and assisting visiting researchers.
- Supervising students and volunteers in specimen preparation and label formatting.
- Assisting the collection manager in events planning, such as Nevada Native Plant Society meetings and volunteer events such as plant mounting parties, plant identification flash courses, and group tours.
