Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WVBE Policy 5314, and Pocahontas County Schools Policy 4220. FLSA STATUS:
Non-Exempt SALARY:
In accordance with the substitute service personnel pay schedule established by the Pocahontas County Board of Education. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
On an as-needed basis during the school year.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8, a Substitute ECCAT/Aide/Special Education Aide performs duties in an instructional setting under the direction of professional educators and administrators. The substitute provides temporary instructional, behavioral, personal care, supervisory, and classroom support services during the absence of a regularly assigned employee.

Assignments may include general education classrooms, special education classrooms, Pre-K programs, individual student support, transportation services, and other educational settings as determined by district needs.

The substitute assists in maintaining a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment while ensuring continuity of services for students and supporting the educational mission of Pocahontas County Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate as required by WV Code §18A-2-5.
  • Must be currently employed in the classification or successfully pass the state-prescribed examination for the position in accordance with WV Code §18A-4-8e.
  • Criminal background check pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-10 and applicable state requirements.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional and Student Support
  • Assist teachers and other professional staff in implementing instructional activities and educational programs.
  • Reinforce academic skills and learning activities under the supervision of professional staff.
  • Assist students in accessing instructional materials, technology, accommodations, and classroom activities.
  • Support students with academic, behavioral, social-emotional, communication, and functional needs.
Personal Care and Health Services
  • Assist students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, hygiene, mobility, positioning, and other assigned supports.
  • Assist with student health and medical needs when appropriately trained and authorized.
  • Monitor student well-being and promptly report concerns to appropriate personnel.
Behavior and Supervision
  • Assist in implementing behavior support strategies and classroom management procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of students during instructional and non-instructional activities.
  • Support student safety during transitions, meals, recess, arrival, dismissal, field trips, and other assigned activities.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral, medical, emotional, or emergency situations.
Transportation Support
  • Assist with transportation duties when assigned, including loading and unloading students, monitoring student safety, and securing necessary equipment.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, personnel, and district information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, flexibility, and positive work habits.
  • Adhere to all applicable federal and state laws, WVBE policies, county policies, and employee conduct expectations.
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, supervising teacher, Superintendent, or designee.
