Position: Substitute Teacher

Reports To: Building Principal

Primary Objective of Position: Instructs students and facilitates their learning in the absence of the regular teacher.

• Study and follow the curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the absent teacher or the principal.
• Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and benefits of students.
• Take attendance and lunch count according to school policy.
• Responsible for maintaining the well‑being and safety of the students.
• Maintain a tidy, organized, and safe class environment for students.
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, attitude, and health problems.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Keep track of students’ progress and write down information that’ll be useful to the regular teacher.
• Report any incidents regarding students’ behavior in and out of the classroom.
• Oversee school equipment and ensure students use it properly.
• Makes provision for being available to students and/or parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable circumstances.

Work Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: walking, standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; rarely lifting items above twenty‑five pounds. Physical actions may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending at the waist, and reaching to retrieve teaching materials. This position is performed regularly indoors with occasional exposure to seasonal temperatures and natural elements;

subject to moderate to loud student, campus and environment noise; subject to frequent interruptions and contact with employees and students; regular use of computer keyboard, mouse and other basic technological devices. This position is not eligible for remote work.

Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits are to be determined by the board.
