Job Goal

To fully support the mission of Northeast Iowa Community College through the functions of teaching, service and scholarship. To provide effective instruction to ensure academic programming attains student learning outcomes and prepares students for successful transition into the workforce or transfer to a post-secondary institution. To carry out assigned responsibilities to ensure academic programs are sustainable and aligned with accreditation standards.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • A registered dental hygienist who is a graduate of a Commission on Dental Accreditation ( CODA ) accredited program OR a dentist who is a graduate of a Commission on Dental Accreditation ( CODA ) accredited program and has a clear understanding of dental hygiene education and experience working with dental hygienists.
  • Meet certification, registration or licensure required to practice in the state of Iowa or have the ability to obtain such.
  • A masters degree or higher.
  • A minimum of three full time or five part time years (6,000 hours) of recent experience as a dental hygienist or a dentist.
  • Highly competent in the dental hygiene discipline.
  • Able to instruct, assess, and evaluate dental hygiene student learning and performance following CODA standards.
  • Ability to appropriately and sufficiently relate well to students, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Meet the instructor credentialing requirements of the Commission on Dental Accreditation and Northeast Iowa Community College’s Quality Faculty Plan ( QFP ).
  • Previous formal teaching experience is preferred.

Must meet minimum experience and education requirements as outlined by the Iowa Code sections 260C.47 and 260C.48 and the Northeast Iowa Community College Quality Faculty Plan.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :

Must possess an Iowa driver’s license.

Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL TASKS :

The College recognizes three broad areas of faculty endeavour: teaching, scholarship, and service, and expects that ALL faculty members will be active in each of these areas.

Teaching

Teaching is a core activity of the College and all faculty members are expected to achieve excellence in this role. Teaching includes not only traditional classroom, laboratory and studio instruction, but may also include service‑learning courses, evolving forms of technology‑enhanced instruction such as hybrid, online, distance learning courses, competency based learning, and other non‑classroom instruction such as the supervision of interns/co‑op students and clinical students.

The following provides a list of the essential expectations in teaching:

  • Remain current with methods and developments in the content area.
  • Possess the expertise to deliver courses in multiple formats; face‑to‑face, online, hybrid.
  • Utilize current technologies to support teaching;
  • Complete delegated teaching assignment in accordance with guidelines for teaching format.
  • Meet all class, office and college commitments.
  • Participate in the development of a cohesive general education program and/or career and technical program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Establish a representative program advisory board and respond to recommendations.
    • Ensure an ongoing process of curriculum evaluation.
    • Network with adjunct and concurrent faculty to ensure consistency in curriculum through department meetings, peer mentoring visits, discipline meetings etc.
  • Evidence a commitment to the assessment of student learning. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
