Job DescriptionJob Summary:
The Special Education Aide supports students with disabilities by assisting the classroom teacher in delivering instruction, managing behavior, and meeting individual educational needs. This position helps create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where students can thrive.
Key Responsibilities:- Work under the direction of a certified special education teacher to support instruction and IEP goals.
- Provide direct support to individual students or small groups, including academic, behavioral, and functional assistance.
- Assist students with daily living activities, personal care, or mobility as needed.
- Implement behavior intervention plans and support positive behavior strategies.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the teacher.
- Help maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment.
- Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, playgrounds, and during arrival/dismissal.
- Assist with classroom organization, preparation of materials, and data collection.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and personal information.
- Participate in training and professional development as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with children, especially those with disabilities, preferred.
- Patience, flexibility, and a strong desire to help students succeed.
- Ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively, and maintain professionalism.
- Must pass required background checks and training (e.g., CPR, first aid, crisis intervention, etc.).
- Work takes place primarily in classroom settings, but may include other school environments.
- May require lifting, restraining, or assisting students with physical tasks.
- Follows the school calendar with work hours aligning with the school day.
