The Oak View General Education Associate provides flexible, building-wide support to students, teachers, administrators, and office staff in grades 7-8. This position assists with instructional activities, student supervision, classroom operations, student transitions, building routines, and general office and administrative functions to help ensure a safe, welcoming, and effective learning environment for all students.

The General Education Associate works collaboratively with teachers, building administrators, office personnel, support staff, and students to respond to the changing needs of the building. The position requires flexibility, initiative, sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, confidentiality, and the ability to effectively transition between instructional, student-support, supervisory, and office responsibilities throughout the school day.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Student & Classroom Support

• Provide instructional and classroom support to teachers as directed.
• Assist individual students or small groups of students with classroom activities, assignments, practice, organization, and other teacher-directed learning activities.
• Reinforce academic skills and concepts under the direction of licensed instructional staff.
• Support students in developing positive work habits, organization, independence, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Assist students with transitions between classrooms, activities, lunch, transportation, and other school settings.
• Provide additional classroom support when staffing needs or student needs arise.
• Assist teachers with preparing instructional materials, organizing classroom resources, copying, filing, and other classroom-related tasks.
• Support substitute teachers and classrooms as assigned.
• Provide coverage for classrooms or student activities as directed by building administration and consistent with district procedures.

Student Supervision & Building Support

• Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, arrival and dismissal areas, assemblies, field trips, and other school settings.
• Monitor student behavior and interactions and reinforce school expectations and positive behavior.
• Assist students in resolving minor conflicts and problems using appropriate school-based strategies.
• Respond appropriately to student needs, concerns, and unexpected situations.
• Assist with maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive school environment.
• Support arrival and dismissal procedures, including student movement and supervision.
• Assist with lunch supervision as assigned.
• Provide support during school-wide activities, special events, assemblies, and other building functions.
• Assist students who require additional adult support while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and encouraging independence.
• Follow established procedures for responding to emergencies, student injuries, behavioral concerns, and other safety situations.
• Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education staff, administrators, office personnel, counselors, nurses, and other support staff.
• Respond flexibly to changing building needs and priorities throughout the school day.
• Move between classrooms, grade levels, and building areas as needed.
• Assist where additional staff support is needed to maintain effective building operations.
• Communicate relevant student, safety, behavioral, or operational concerns to the appropriate staff member.
• Establish and maintain positive, respectful relationships with students and staff across the building.
