A Master Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the PJM system is properly scheduled in accordance with PJM Market Rules and that transactions in the PJM energy market are administered consistent with current rules and procedures.
Training includes online training, self‑study, one‑on‑one training, simulations, and On the Job Training (OJT). A twelve‑week training program consists of OJT under the supervision of a trainer who guides the trainee in acquiring the knowledge and skills required for the position. Candidates must successfully complete a computer‑based final exam with a minimum score of 80%, a hands‑on examination on the Operator Training Simulator (OTS) with a minimum score of 80%, and successful testing through the Profiles
XT assessment. Required NERC certification must be obtained at the Reliability Coordinator or Balancing and Interchange level and PJM Generation certification, within the allotted timeframe.
- Maintains power system reliability by ensuring operations are in compliance with applicable NERC standards and PJM operating and emergency procedures.
- Evaluates the submission, dispatch, curtailment and reload of energy transactions.
- Performs control area checkout processes and procedures.
- Processes all customer inquiries and requests for energy transactions, scheduling, and generation outage information in a timely and effective manner.
- Directs the scheduling of generating units of PJM participants to meet load and reserve requirements for future periods to gain maximum system economy within established reliability criteria.
- Monitors generating unit (over 1000 generators) capability changes, return dates, operating constraints, start‑up and minimum run times.
- Works with PJM’s Market Operations and Reliability Engineers to determine and implement generator unit scheduling strategy.
- Monitors and adjusts the strategy as system changes occur.
- Forecasts (and revises) the PJM system load forecast for the next seven days by monitoring weather forecasts throughout the PJM service territory.
- Monitors all input data to the scheduling and transaction database for accuracy and resolves discrepancies with PJM participants.
- Mants records and logs of all scheduling and transaction information used in market settlements and after‑the‑fact analysis.
- Prepares hydro schedules in coordination with member companies.
- Prepares appropriate reports in support of other dispatch and supervisory positions, including minimum generation and maximum emergency conditions.
- Manages and approves generation and maintenance outage tickets in PJM’s outage management application.
- Assists with the administration of PJM Transaction and Energy Markets.
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
- 0‑5 years of relevant industry‐related experience.
- Ability to visualize and solve complex problems.
- Ability to apply analytical and mathematical solutions.
- Experience in customer service/support.
Note:
Candidates with only a high school diploma will be expected to demonstrate a higher degree of relevant industry‑related experience.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or Computer Science.
- NERC Certified System Operator.
