SW North America’s Machine Systems Controls Engineer is responsible for the electrical hardware design and software engineering for a CNC machine to fill specific customer orders. This position will work closely with the Manager of Machine Technology to develop machine options into a finalized design. The Machine Systems Controls Engineer will lead the debugging and startup working with commissioning to ensure a seamless machine start up.
The Machine Systems Controls Engineer may also work with other team members to develop system manuals and provide end customers with technical documentation and training.
The Machines Systems Controls Engineer performs a variety of duties, including, but not limited to, the following
:
- Selection and sizing of hardware components
- Generation of electrical and fluid schematics
- Author bill of materials
- Panel layout design and heat calculation analysis
- Pneumatic / coolant / hydraulics system sizing and plumbing
- Develop system hardware architecture
Write programmable logic controller logic and function blocks - Travel onsite for customer startup and commissioning as needed
- Interface with automation systems for machine tending applications
- Ensure system complies with applicable OSHA / safety standards
- All other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience in electrical hardware design
- Electrical design experience with EPLAN P8
- Programming experience with Siemens TIA Portal
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, prioritizing them appropriately
- Good organizational skills and detail-oriented
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- German speaking ability preferred, but not required
- Business travel is estimated to be approximately 25%
Physical Requirements
- Primary work area is a controlled office environment with time also spent on the shop floor as needed, requiring the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
