Senior Project Engineer – Battery Energy Storage

My client, a leading renewable energy company specializing in the development, construction, and operation of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), is seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Engineer to join their EPC team in Nevada. The successful candidate will have a deep electrical engineering background, a proven track record in the design and execution of large-scale energy storage projects, and the leadership skills to guide multidisciplinary teams from concept through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead conceptual and detailed design for complex utility-scale BESS projects, including system architecture, equipment selection, and grid interconnection strategy.
- Act as the technical authority during all project phases, ensuring engineering excellence and compliance with NV Energy and Nevada regulatory requirements.
- Oversee and mentor junior engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and technical development.
- Coordinate across development, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to maintain alignment on design, cost, and schedule.
- Review and approve detailed electrical engineering design packages and contractor submittals.
- Interface with utilities, permitting authorities, and AHJs to secure approvals and manage interconnection.
- Support field teams during construction with QA/QC oversight, RFI responses, and technical issue resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in BESS, utility-scale solar + storage, or high-voltage power projects.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing engineering design teams.
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage systems, inverters, BMS, SCADA, and grid interconnection.
- NV Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across Nevada and neighboring states.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NV Energy interconnection processes.
- Track record delivering projects over 100 MWh in capacity.
- Familiarity with NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A, and other energy storage safety standards.
