This is a seasonal position responsible for assigned duties related to the Secondary Roads Department.

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours.
Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Assists with inspecting construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications and prepare documentation to submit to the IDOT; monitors the progress of outside contractors to ensure work meets specifications and quality standards.
2. Assists in the preparation of plans and documents for bid lettings utilizing Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and additional software packages.
3. Aids in surveying proposed job sites to compile information and determine design parameters in preparation for the Design Phase of a project; compiles research needed in completing the survey accurately.
4. Aids in staking out bridges, roads, and right-of-way for contractors and secondary road crews.
5. Provides feedback and answers questions from County residents to ensure concerns are accurately and adequately addressed.
6. Performs miscellaneous duties such as, but not limited to: traffic counting, pavement marking, and material testing.
7. Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.
8. Performs related duties as assigned.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or G.E.D. required. University Engineering Student OR Engineering Technology Student. Surveying, Inspection, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) experience preferred.
Skill in:
Ability to utilize effective written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
Ability to work independently and organize tasks to complete projects by assigned deadlines.
Ability to provide work direction for construction work crews.
Ability to monitor contracted work and report progress to immediate supervisor.
Demonstrates knowledge of engineering techniques, construction concepts, and various engineering tools and equipment.
Knowledge of IDOT specifications, regulations and restrictions in construction and maintenance of County roads.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the field at various construction project sites. While in the field, may be exposed to dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery; hazards associated with traffic, extreme outdoor weather conditions, and hazardous chemicals.
May be required to traverse uneven terrain, climb in and out of ditches, and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Driver's license.
Iowa Department of Transportation materials testing certifications as an Aggregate Technician, Level I Hot Mix Asphalt Technician, Level I and Level II Portland Cement Concrete Technician preferred.
