Responsibilities

Do you want to be a part of a national security mission that conducts research and development? Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Senior Scientist to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide diagnostic fielding and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Scientist to collaborate in design, development, characterization, and fielding of Pulse Power systems on high stake weapons physics experiments conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experiments (PULSE) and other facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

This Pulse Power Scientist will report primarily to the NNSS and will support fielding efforts for a Pulse Power X-Ray source, with an emphasis on theory and practical applications of diagnostics systems such as radiographic imagining systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing pulse power X-Ray sources, oscilloscopes, function generators, delay generators, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining the performance of pulsed power X-ray sources.
  • Provides support for execution of program/project activities and data collection (i.e., classified systems/networks, diagnostics, and x-rays).
  • Works with peers and other disciplines to coordinate project execution compliance.
  • Works with Scientists, Engineers and Technicians in the development and fielding of x-ray imaging, x-ray dosimetry, electrical diagnostics and data acquisition systems.
  • Duties may include Team Supervisor, Person in Charge (PIC), and Radiation Generating Device Custodian (RGD).
  • Assists in researching, extracting, analyzing and compiling technical data.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports, graphs, proposals, studies and correspondence.
  • Assists in preliminary engineering analysis, conceptual design and engineering calculations.
  • Assists in and reviews project design and technical documents.
  • Executes work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in calculus-based technical (STEM) field plus at least 5 years relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
  • Proficiency in Pulse Power systems is required.
  • Experience with radiographic and optical imaging systems is desired.
  • Experience with data analysis or engineering software such as MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, Solid Works or Creo is desired.
  • Working knowledge of office software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
