Chariton, Iowa — Chariton Resident Construction Office
Shift Requirements7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, Travel throughout the district and statewide as directed for meetings and training sessions. Some overnight travel may be required.
Responsibilities- Identify and coordinate specialized inspection skills for projects, including concrete and asphalt plant inspections, quality assurance, hazardous material oversight, and ride quality evaluations.
- Perform on-site inspections to ensure construction activities meet project specifications, safety standards, and traffic control requirements for public safety.
- Quickly address issues such as survey errors, utility conflicts, and constructability problems to keep projects on schedule and avoid costly delays.
- Monitor adherence to environmental regulations, including storm water pollution prevention, hazardous waste handling, asbestos abatement, and wetland mitigation.
- Work closely with design and contract teams to confirm plans meet project goals, staging requirements, and minimize public inconvenience and added costs.
- PCC 1, HMA 1, Erosion Control Technician and/or other certifications as required.
- Possess and maintain a valid non‑commercial driver’s license.

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in civil engineering or a related field, and experience equal to five years of full‑time work in engineering survey, construction inspection, highway design, materials inspection, or materials testing.
