Job Overview
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities- Plan, specify, schedule, design, implement, and commission Facility and Infrastructure design changes at NNSS.
- Evaluate existing conditions and devise upgrade designs for highly regulated nuclear facilities, including instrumentation and control responsibilities.
- Prepare designs for communication systems such as standard phones, Voice‑over‑IP phones, data network distribution, outside plant design, inside plant cabling, public address, and security system interfaces.
- Coordinate network designs with MSTS Information Technology (IT) to ensure compatibility.
- Support validation and verification of software using IEEE‑1012 Verification and Validation of Software Requirements.
- Implement system designs to meet DOE‑STD‑1195 Design of Safety Significant Safety Instrumented Systems.
- Design network diagrams, plan layouts, control schematics, subcontractor specifications, and provide technical oversight of subcontracted designs.
- Serve as Technical Lead for major projects and startups, initiating collaboration with partners external to MSTS and leading cross‑disciplinary collaboration.
- Advisory role to management and other personnel on technical issues, participating in business development and proposal planning.
- Apply knowledge and ingenuity to implement cutting‑edge solutions in technical areas.
- Support validation and verification of software specified for customer systems.
- Implement system designs that meet DOE‑STD‑1195 for safety‑instrumented systems.
- Design network diagrams, plan layouts, control schematics, and oversee subcontracted designs.
- Lead collaboration with partners and other disciplines to achieve mission execution.
- Advising management and other personnel on difficult and critical technical issues.
- Participate in business development by defining customer needs, developing proposals, and planning projects.
- Implement pioneering solutions in technical areas, often in unexplored fields of investigation and research.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering accredited by ABET.
- Or Calculus‑based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Or Professional Engineer license.
- At least five years of relevant experience, with deeper technical or cross‑disciplinary experience.
- Design skills for cable and conduit installation, field engineering, control system installation during sustained facility operation, testing and commissioning, and evaluation against configuration‑managed design drawings.
- Knowledge of requirements traceability, control system component specification and selection (sub‑contractor interface, motor controllers, VFDs, SCADA/DCS, PLCs, RTUs, Web Relays, IoT devices). Familiarity with Ignition software is a plus.
- Ability to interpret codes and standards within the discipline.
- Prior Department of Energy complex work experience preferred but not required.
- Past project engineering experience preferred.
- Proven ability to work as a team member and leader to ensure success.
