Lead Estimator / Assistant Project Manager - Civil Construction
Job Description
This role combines Assistant Project Management and Lead Estimating responsibilities to support both field operations and preconstruction efforts in civil construction. You will play a critical role in machine control modeling, civil takeoffs, and project cost estimating, while serving as a technical resource for field teams using advanced GPS machine control systems. The position offers a strong blend of field exposure and office-based estimating, ideal for someone looking to grow their career in civil construction technology and project delivery.
You will create accurate 3D CAD models, perform material takeoffs, assist equipment operators on civil sitework projects, and support the setup and training of GPS-enabled equipment.
Responsibilities
+ Support both field operations and preconstruction efforts as a key member of the project team.
+ Develop accurate 3D CAD models to support machine control, layout, and civil sitework planning.
+ Perform detailed civil takeoffs and material quantity calculations to support project cost estimating.
+ Prepare and refine project cost estimates using estimating software and civil construction data.
+ Serve as a technical resource for field teams utilizing advanced GPS machine control systems.
+ Assist equipment operators on various civil sitework projects by interpreting models, plans, and GPS data.
+ Work in the field to set up GPS systems on construction equipment and ensure proper calibration and functionality.
+ Provide training and ongoing support to field personnel on the use of GPS machine control and related technology.
+ Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to align estimates, models, and schedules.
+ Use GIS software to analyze spatial data and support design, planning, and estimating activities.
+ Apply knowledge of construction safety protocols to help ensure compliance and safe practices on-site.
+ Lead assigned projects or work packages to successful completion, managing scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
+ Communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders to coordinate tasks, resolve issues, and share technical information.
+ Leverage estimating software and civil construction tools to enhance project planning and delivery.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement of modeling, estimating, and field technology processes.
Essential Skills
+ Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD for detailed civil design work and creation of accurate 3D CAD models.
+ Experience in civil engineering or civil construction environments with a focus on estimation and project delivery.
+ Proficiency in civil estimating, including material takeoffs and project cost estimating.
+
Experience with project management responsibilities in a civil construction setting.
+ Familiarity with estimating software to support project planning and cost estimation.
+
Experience with GPS equipment and advanced GPS machine control systems used in civil sitework.
+ Ability to support and train field teams in the use of GPS machine control technology.
+ Experience working with civil construction technology such as Trimble Business Center or similar platforms.
+ Knowledge of construction safety protocols and ability to support on-site compliance.
+ Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
+ Proven experience in leading projects or major tasks to successful completion.
