Senior Environmental Engineer – Phoenix, Nevada

Nevada Gold Mines is looking for a Senior Environmental Engineer to join our team at the Phoenix operation. In this role, you’ll lead environmental programs that manage air, water, land, waste, and reclamation activities, while mentoring junior team members and working closely with operations, engineering, and regulatory agencies. You will help guide day‑to‑day compliance activities, oversee permitting and reporting, manage environmental risks, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts that support safe, sustainable mining.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of the site’s reclamation permits, including preparation of regulatory reports, reclamation cost model updates, and assistance with reclamation permit modifications.
  • Review and update site Trust Funds.
  • Ensure compliance with the site’s Plan of Operations and corresponding U.S. Bureau of Land Management Record of Decisions.
  • Manage the site’s cultural resource programs, including oversight of cultural resource surveys and development and execution of cultural mitigation plans, as needed.
  • Participate in regulatory inspections.
  • Assist with the development of Plan of Operations amendments and the completion of associated NEPA permitting activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of agency correspondence and environmental monitoring data.
  • Act as a liaison between the mine and environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Develop, maintain, and update environmental management plans, as necessary.
  • Plan and track reclamation activities in coordination with the site’s mine engineering personnel.
  • Manage contractors to ensure the safe delivery of project objectives.
  • Ensure conformance with internal mine closure standards.
  • Assist with providing guidance and training to employees and contractors regarding environmental obligations.
  • Align work practices with Environmental ISO 14001 and Occupational Health and Safety 45001 standards.
  • Provide periodic, after‑hours on‑call response to environmental incidents, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Manage budgets, including the development, forecasting, and tracking of reclamation/closure costs.
  • Coordinate with supply chain personnel to procure contractor and consultant services, as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental science, environmental studies, hydrology, hydrogeology, mine engineering, ecology or related field – required.
  • Five (5) years direct experience managing environmental compliance programs and projects, with a minimum of three (3) years in an industrial setting – required.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with PowerPoint, Word and Excel – required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills – required.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously – required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with others – required.
  • Ability to identify and implement opportunities for improvement – required.
  • General understanding of mining operations – preferred.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance systems and ISO 14001 – preferred.
  • Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time‑sensitive deadlines – required.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors throughout the year in all weather conditions – required.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. – required.
