The University of Miami School of Communication seeks a full‑time Manager of Broadcast Production Services based in Coral Gables, FL.
Job Responsibilities- Manage daily operations of engineering and broadcast functions of studios, ensuring compliance with University, state, and federal policies, including FCC regulations.
- Ensure broadcast quality of the station's signal and efficient operation of equipment, supporting the station's schedule without errors or downtime.
- Execute daily technical set‑up, troubleshooting, and repair of broadcast TV cameras, editing suite, video servers, and other technical equipment for classes and productions.
- Oversee the technical equipment room operations and staff, providing support for faculty and students in the use, check‑out, and operation of equipment.
- Assist Facilities and Operations to ensure operation of all audio‑visual infrastructures, including classrooms, offices, labs, and the Cosford Cinema.
- Develop, manage, forecast, and implement annual fiscal capital budget for technical equipment and engineering needs in conjunction with departments and School administration.
- Manage acquisition and maintenance of technical equipment, writing specifications, coordinating purchasing, delivery, and installation, entering orders into system and tracking them against budget.
- Maintain and update maintenance logs, manuals, and schematics.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and address engineering, audio‑visual, and equipment needs.
- Hire, train, and manage broadcast studio engineering, equipment room, and other technical staff.
- Ensure a high level of customer service by creating service standards, observing, and mentoring personnel.
- Work closely with School of Communication IT department and UMIT regarding network compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned. This list is not exhaustive.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Ten years of experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of broadcasting rules and regulations, including FCC rules for digital broadcasting.
- Knowledge of broadcast production techniques, control room operations, equipment.
- Knowledge of high‑definition/serial digital broadcast and audio‑visual equipment and broadcast systems integration.
- Knowledge of ENG equipment.
- Knowledge of Adobe Premier and Avid software.
- Knowledge of nonlinear editing systems.
- Knowledge of information technology equipment.
- Knowledge of fiber‑optic encoder/decoder.
- Knowledge of film production and editing equipment.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and Ethernet topology.
- Knowledge of Maya and After Effects animation software.
- Knowledge of ENPS Newsroom System.
- Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems efficiently.
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi‑task.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Strong organizational and management skills.
- Relevant education, certifications, and/or work experience may be considered.
