Manager, Compliance Engineering

The Compliance Engineering Manager leads Crystal Group's Compliance Engineering team and is responsible for ensuring products meet all applicable functional, military, commercial, environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle.

This role oversees compliance strategy, environmental and regulatory testing, internal compliance lab operations, and third-party testing relationships while partnering closely with Design and Development Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Program Management, and customers to ensure products successfully achieve required certifications and performance standards.

The Manager develops the people, processes, tools, and technologies necessary to execute compliance activities supporting Crystal Group's ruggedized computing, networking, and storage solutions for defense and commercial markets.

Leadership

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Compliance Engineers and Technicians.
  • Conduct performance reviews, establish employee goals, and support career development.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Manage departmental workload, staffing, and resource planning.
  • Foster a culture of quality, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Compliance Engineering

  • Own the full lifecycle of product compliance activities from concept through production release.
  • Develop compliance strategies for new product development.
  • Guide engineering teams on applicable regulatory and military standards.
  • Ensure products comply with applicable military, commercial, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Review product designs to identify compliance risks early in development.
  • Support verification, validation, and certification activities.

Compliance Testing

  • Oversee internal environmental compliance testing programs.
  • Manage Compliance Lab equipment, maintenance, calibration, and future capital planning.
  • Coordinate testing schedules, priorities, and engineering resources.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with third-party compliance laboratories.
  • Review test reports and ensure corrective actions are implemented when required.
  • Ensure testing activities comply with industry standards and internal procedures.

Project Leadership

  • Support multiple concurrent development programs.
  • Develop project schedules and compliance milestones.
  • Manage technical risks associated with compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with Project Management, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Program Management.
  • Support customer technical discussions related to compliance requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain compliance processes, procedures, and best practices.
  • Monitor emerging regulatory standards and industry trends.
  • Drive improvements in verification methodologies and compliance documentation.
  • Support proposal development and customer compliance requirements.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience leading and engaging a motivated, energetic team of engineers and test technicians, and technical staff.
  • Deep expertise in compliance engineering processes, standards, industry best practices, and methods
  • Experience with ruggedized system design for harsh operational environments
  • Knowledge of military compliance standards, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-901, MIL-STD-461, and others, and commercial standards and systems engineering standards, including UL, IEC, ASTM, ISO 14001, ISO 26262, and others
  • Experience with verification and validation methodologies, test planning, and requirements traceability
  • Demonstratable experience with managing project technical cost, schedule, and performance using earned value metrics.
  • Understanding of export control regulations including ITAR and EAR
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator and presenter, and experience with collaborating and communicating with peers, leadership, customers, partners, and suppliers
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, matrixed organizations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and relevant engineering experience will be considered
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience with at least 3 years in management or technical leadership roles
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex hardware products from concept to production
