General

Summary:

Provide routine and emergency maintenance on electrical, instrumentation, and control systems to ensure safe, efficient and reliable electric plant operation. Take ownership of critical plant process areas providing oversight, maintenance management, and insight to continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform calibration, predictive, preventative and breakdown maintenance on a variety of complex industrial electrical and instrument and control systems to ensure plant availability and to maximize plant efficiency, including;

  • Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and write diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation and generation facility. Voltages will range from 120 VAC – 230kV VAC
  • Must have extensive knowledge and be able to lead the following tasks:

Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.

Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper

Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis,

CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.

Test both electrical-mechanical and solid-state relays.

  • Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.

Provide project management assistance and coordination to facilitate safe, accurate, efficient implementation of new equipment and systems, including;

  • Serve as a job leader interface for contractors and temporary employees, support craft and non-craft personnel.
  • Possess the ownership for planning, implementation, startup and long-term operation of new equipment and systems, including vendor interface, budge oversight, schedule development and timeline adherence.
  • Technical support for engineering and operations.

Install, configure, repair and perform process software system design on computer-based systems to insure safe and reliable operations. Develop and manage computer/microprocessor-based technologies and digital communications such as.

  • “SMART” instrumentation
  • Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Wired, wireless and fiber optic communication and control networks
  • Control network hardware and software security
  • Digital communication protocols
  • Distributed Control Systems
  • Micro process-based protection circuits
  • “HMI” (Human Machine Interfaces)

Maintain proficiency through continuous learning based on competencies, to assure safety to self, others and equipment. Ensure regulatory compliance various agencies including but not limited to: NFPA, OSHA, EPA and the State Department of Health.

  • Participate in training and complete qualifications to support “Qualified Electrical Worker” requirements.
  • Review and recommend continuous improvement to maximize the implementation and effectiveness of Rainbow Energy Centers Electrical Safety Work Practices.

Maintain detailed documentation records needed to support a safe and professional electrical and instrument & control department including;

  • Electrical Schematics and drawings
  • Process SAMA diagrams
  • Vendor prints and manuals
  • Piping and Instrument diagrams
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Calibration records
  • Regulatory and Environmental compliance records

Manage all aspects of equipment and process maintenance for assigned plant area. Assume responsibility for backlog management, schedules, priorities, performance and regulatory and environmental compliance of assigned equipment and systems.

  • Assist in budget preparations; recommend spare parts inventory and continuous process improvements to maximize efficiency and availability.
