Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for leading and directing all accounting operations of Goodwill Industries of Southern Nevada, which operates over 20 thrift stores. The role oversees financial reporting, accounts payable, payroll, grant reporting, general ledger activities, month‑end and year‑end close processes, internal controls, audits, tax compliance, cash management, budgeting, and accounting team development. The Controller ensures the integrity of financial information, compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable regulatory requirements, while serving as a strategic business partner to executive leadership.

Financial

Leadership and Reporting
  • Directs all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, cash management, and general ledger activities.
  • Oversees the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Maintains accounting records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Analyzes financial performance and identifies trends, risks, and opportunities.
Internal Controls and Compliance
  • Develops, implements, and maintains effective internal control systems.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Supports preparation and filing of Form 990 and other required nonprofit reporting.
  • Monitors compliance with grant, donor, and funding requirements.
  • Establishes policies and procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Evaluates and improves financial processes and controls.
Audit and Tax Management
  • Supports annual external audits and serves as primary liaison with auditors.
  • Coordinates audit preparation and resolution of audit findings.
  • Participates in completion of all tax filings and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Oversees preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintains compliance with nonprofit financial reporting standards.
Budgeting and Financial Planning
  • Assists in the annual budgeting process in partnership with the CFO.
  • Assists with forecasting, financial modeling, and long‑range financial planning.
  • Supports strategic decision‑making through financial analysis and recommendations.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Directly supervises accounting personnel.
  • Establishes performance expectations and accountability standards.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensures cross‑training and succession planning within the accounting function.
  • Promotes a culture of accuracy, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Operational Support
  • Collaborates with department leaders to support operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Supports system implementations, process improvements, and technology enhancements.
  • Serves as a financial resource to leadership across the organization.
