Description
The class is to receive in-coming emergency and non-emergency calls; to dispatch calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS and other personnel and services in an accurate, timely and professional manner; to maintain accurate and complete dispatch records; and to perform related work as required. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor.
This position reports to the Senior Telecommunicator.
- Performs dispatch duties for the Consolidated Dispatch Center, including: receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS, rescue and haz-mat response; receiving and dispatching calls for various government agencies, utility companies and other service agencies; monitoring radio communications; monitoring alarm panels; providing directions and other information to officers in the field; and coordinating wrecker services as needed.
- Provides basic medical care instructions over the phone before the medic arrives (e.g., CPR steps if a patient stops breathing, guidance for seizures, and ensuring airway clearance).
- Enters information into the system regarding wanted or missing persons and entered items as applicable.
- Provides routine assistance and information to callers (taking messages, providing directions, routing calls, etc.) and initiates calls at the request of officers.
- Maintains tape recordings of dispatch communications and provides copies as requested.
- Prepares and maintains dispatch and department records and documentation; enters and retrieves information; testsifies in court as necessary; prepares and submits various reports required by the department, County and regulatory agencies.
- Responds to inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance; handles after-hours calls for closed offices as needed.
- Attends training sessions, workshops, meetings to maintain or enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Remains on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week, for emergency response as assigned.
- Performs general clerical work as required (reports, correspondence, data entry, filing, and related tasks).
- May train new employees and perform other related duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation and Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
6 Months Experience Desired But Not Required.
Able to type at least 35 words per minute.
Special
Qualifications:
Must possess Emergency-911, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Completion of ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within one year of employment and NCIC certifications.

The base annual wage is generated from a base hourly rate of $21.02 per hour under the standard rotating 12-hour shift schedule.
Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate for hours over 40 in a 7-day pay cycle. Additional overtime opportunities for shift coverage may be available per departmental policy.
