The City of Algona is seeking applicants to join the Algona Police Department as a Patrol Officer. Algona (pop. 5,487) is located in north-central Iowa and is the county seat of Kossuth County (pop. 14,529). The successful candidate will possess strong communications skills and be familiar with the principals of community/problem solving policing. Candidates must be committed to training, professional development, and community engagement.
Must be a graduate from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy or be able to become a graduate within one year of hire, be a Certified Law Enforcement Officer within one year of hire and meet all state psychiatric test standards. Physical and POST test date noted above (ILEA graduates have no physical or POST test requirements). This position reports to the Chief of Police and Assistant Chief of Police.
The City offers competitive wages with top pay of $37.75/hour ($78,520/year), an excellent benefits package which includes health, vision and dental insurance, paid vacation time, sick time, holiday pay and bereavement leave, life insurance and IPERS. In addition, the City offers a $3,000/year residency stipend for officers living within city limits. Wage dependent upon experience, qualifications, and certifications.
