Location: West Union

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position are separated into two main program areas. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive:

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
  • Assist in the implementation of grants, contracts, applicable state and federal laws, and professional standards of practice.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, including pre-construction, construction, and post-construction inspections; respond to environmental complaints; and assist in ensuring compliance with applicable standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Examine and review plans, specifications, inspection reports, operating and construction permits; collect samples, compile data, and perform analyses as required.
  • Assist in monitoring and promoting compliance with applicable local, state, and federal standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Respond to requests from public and private entities and individuals for information and technical assistance regarding environmental issues; assist with problem‑solving and explain applicable rules and regulations to facilitate compliance.
  • Prepare electronic reports using approved software applications to summarize inspections, regulatory activities, analyses, and other environmental health information.
  • Assist in maintaining and implementing applicable policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments, agencies, academic institutions, and business partners on environmental health issues and educational initiatives.
  • Attend training and professional meetings to enhance knowledge and competency in environmental health programs and related subject areas.
  • Maintain accounting, financial, and audit‑related documentation as required.
  • Assist with budget development, monitoring, and related financial activities.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Board of Health, Board of Supervisors, or Environmental Health Coordinator.
ZONING AND SUBDIVISION REGULATION
  • Review applications and collect fees for building permits, signs, zoning violations, preliminary and final plats, Planning and Zoning Commission applications, Board of Adjustment applications, and related field inspections.
  • Assist in reviewing applications, preparing reports, and making presentations to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Board of Supervisors regarding zoning amendments, subdivision development, conditional/special uses, and variances.
  • Review plats for compliance in cooperation with the Recorder's, Auditor's, GIS, and Assessor's Offices.
  • Assist with the review of local ordinances, state administrative rules, and federal standards to support regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in administering the Fayette County Flood Plain Program in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and organizations on zoning, land use, and subdivision matters.
  • Prepare reports, assessments, and other documentation as required by federal, state, and local governments.
  • Respond to written, electronic, and telephone inquiries from public and private entities and individuals regarding zoning and subdivision issues; provide technical assistance and explain applicable regulations to support compliance.
  • Assist the Chairs of the Fayette County Planning and Zoning Commission and Fayette County Zoning Board of Adjustment with meeting preparation, notices, minutes, and other functions necessary to support board operations.
  • Maintain accounting, financial, and audit‑related documentation as required.
  • Assist with budget development, monitoring, and related financial activities.
  • Attend training and professional meetings to enhance knowledge and competency in zoning, planning, and related subject areas.
  • Receive, review, understand, and comply with Fayette County policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Board of Supervisors, or Zoning Administrator.
