Juvenile Probation Officer – White Pine & Lincoln Counties

Job posting date:
July 29, 2025. The White Pine County 7th Judicial District Court is seeking applicants for this open position in White Pine County and Lincoln County.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in criminal justice or related field, one year of experience working with youth, or equivalent. Current CAT I Nevada POST certification or ability to obtain within 12 months. Must be 21+ and have a valid Nevada driver’s license.

Essential Job Functions
  • Evaluates, scores and determines eligibility for detainment of juveniles; schedules and coordinates juveniles for detention hearings; transports to and from detainment facility; notifies juvenile’s parents of detainment and upcoming court proceedings. On‑call 24 hours per day, 7 days a week to assist and advise law enforcement in juvenile matters. This position requires travel, and employee can expect to work 50% of their time in White Pine County and 50% in Lincoln County.
  • Reviews police reports and gathers information to develop recommendations for the disposition of the juvenile’s case; reviews school and criminal records; meets with parents, school staff, law enforcement officers, and district attorney’s staff to gather additional information; conducts home visits to meet with parents and make observations regarding the juvenile’s home; prepares written reports for the court; makes recommendations to the court.
  • Supervises juveniles placed on formal probation, informal probation, and consent agreements; conducts periodic meetings with the juveniles to review activities, provide information; advises and counsels youth and family; refers juveniles to other service agencies as well as coordinates and transports to said agencies; verifies the attendance of probationers at school and at court‑ordered activities; visits probationers homes to observe conditions and activities;

    organizes restitution programs; makes reports to the court regarding the activities and progress of probationers.
  • Maintains detailed records of information received and contacts made with juveniles and others regarding each case; summarizes information and prepares narrative reports.
  • Responsible for knowing and applying N.R.S. Chapter 62 and being in compliance with Interstate Compact for Juveniles.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of principles and practices of juvenile probation and social case work; federal, state and local laws, and court decisions applicable to juvenile probation work; principles of applied psychology; currently accepted ideas related to the cause, prevention, and control of crime and delinquency; interviewing and counseling techniques; functions and general practices of law enforcement agencies and of the courts.

Ability to work with juveniles and their families; analyze investigation material and make appropriate decisions; determine the truth of statements; work cooperatively with peace officers, school officials, and other agencies; read and apply regulations and policies; communicate with individuals in a variety of different emotional states, from a variety of different socioeconomic backgrounds; respond to and make decisions under the stress of emergency and confrontation;

observe and record interactions with juveniles.

Position Hours and Pay

This is a full‑time position, 40 hours per week. Grade 11 Step 1‑3 $ 28.55–$31.23 per hour, DOE. Includes a competitive benefits package and participation in the Nevada PERS Police and Fire Retirement System.
