Iowa Correctional Institution For Women

The Iowa Correctional Institution for Women is a multi-faceted facility that serves as the sole female facility and female reception center for the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Schedule:

Afternoon shift (1:00 PM – 11:00 PM), rotation: 6 days on/4 days off, 5 days on/5 days off, 5 days on/3 days off. Key responsibilities include shift supervision & security, staff management & development, administrative & HR duties, and documentation & investigations.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Three years of full-time work experience in correctional or law enforcement officer work, one year of which must have been as a correctional officer in a juvenile or adult community/ institutional corrections or jail security program.
  • All of the following (a and b): a. One year of full-time work experience in correctional or law enforcement officer work; and b. A combination of a total of two years of education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in penology, police science, psychology, sociology, or social work equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Eighteen months of full-time work experience as a counselor of offenders in a community/ institutional corrections or jail security program.
  • A combination of a total of eighteen months of education and full-time experience (as described in number three), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in penology, police science, psychology, sociology, or social work equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes any of the following: a. Six months of full-time work as a Senior Correctional Officer; b. One year of full-time work as a Correctional Counselor or State Industries Technician; or c. Two-and-a-half years of full time work as a Correctional Officer or Correctional Food Service Coordinator.
Additional Qualification Requirements

Some positions in this class may require an applicant to have the ability to pass a background investigation.
