Job Summary

Under the general guidance of the Director of Risk and Compliance, the Supervisor, Environmental and Laundry Services, will be responsible for duties in both the Laundry and Housekeeping Departments, based on the needs of the departments. This is a supervisory position overseeing two departments, Environmental and Laundry/Linen Services. This position will supervise and schedule all direct reports of the departments.

Oversees daily operations of the Environmental Services and Laundry departments to ensure a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for patients, residents, staff, and visitors.

Plans, coordinates, schedules, assigns, and supervises EVS and Laundry staff activities, including housekeeping, linen services, floor care/maintenance, and laundry operations, ensuring adequate coverage based on facility needs and operates the departments and staffing within prescribed budgetary constraints.

Ensures compliance with all infection control standards, safety regulations, hazardous materials handling requirements, and hospital policies, including proper use of chemicals and adherence to Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS).

Supervises the collection, processing, distribution, and inventory management of clean and soiled linens, laundry, and related supplies to support uninterrupted hospital and nursing home operations.

Ensures accurate identification, labeling, handling, and return of patient/resident personal clothing while maintaining dignity, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance.

Monitors equipment performance and coordinates or performs routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and minor troubleshooting of EVS and laundry equipment to ensure operational continuity.

Identifies supply, linen, and equipment needs; maintains established par levels; and communicates purchasing or replenishment needs to Materials Management in support of budgetary compliance.

Trains, coaches, and evaluates EVS and Laundry staff on proper procedures, safety practices, infection control standards, and customer service expectations.

Completes, reviews, and maintains required documentation including logs, checklists, schedules, timecards, and performance records with accuracy and timeliness.

Participates in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.

Requirements Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of environmental services and healthcare laundry operations in a hospital or long-term care setting
Infection prevention and control principles as they relate to contact precautions, environmental cleanliness, linen processing, and the prevention of cross-contamination, including proper handling of soiled linens, waste, and biohazard materials.
Proper use, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS) and hazardous communication requirements
Regulatory and safety requirements applicable to healthcare support services, including HIPAA, OSHA, and facility safety policies
Basic equipment operation, preventive maintenance concepts, and troubleshooting related to housekeeping and laundry equipment
Inventory management practices, par-level controls, and basic cost-containment principles
Customer service expectations in a healthcare environment, including patient/resident dignity and confidentiality and the role of Environmental Services and Laundry in supporting resident/patient safety, quality of care, and regulatory compliance
Basic awareness of CMS Conditions of Participation and/or Nursing Home Requirements as they apply to environmental sanitation and support services

Skill to:

Supervise, train, and coordinate staff in Environmental Services and Laundry operations
Assign and prioritize daily workloads to ensure timely completion of cleaning, laundry, and linen distribution functions
Effectively communicate expectations, procedures, and corrective feedback to staff in a clear and respectful manner
Accurately complete and review schedules, logs, checklists, timecards, and related documentation
Identify operational inefficiencies and participate in performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives
Maintain organized workflows in fast-paced or changing environments, including during staffing shortages or urgent service needs
Apply safe body mechanics and promote safe work practices among staff

Ability to:

Work independently while exercising sound judgment and accountability for departmental outcomes
Lead by example through hands-on participation in EVS and Laundry duties when operational needs require
