The Adair County Health System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist. This is a full-time position with hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. There are no weekends, holidays, or on-call requirements. Strong knowledge of pulmonary function and pulmonary rehabilitation, along with experience with respiratory equipment, are essential to success in this role.
Essential Functions- Monitor patient physiological responses to therapy, such as arterial blood gases, vital signs, blood chemistry, and lung function changes, and consult with physicians if adverse reactions occur.
- Set up and operate devices including therapeutic gas administration apparatus and mechanical ventilators; provide emergency care such as external cardiac massage, artificial respiration, and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation; maintain charts containing patient identification and therapy information.
- Collaborate with a team of health care professionals to manage patient care and assist with medical procedures.
- Set up and operate devices including therapeutic gas administration apparatus, mechanical ventilators, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
- Follow specified treatment parameters.
- Inspect, test, clean, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Maintain charts that contain patient identification and therapy information.
- Measure arterial blood gases, review prescriptions and other data (lung capacity) to assess patient condition.
- Relay blood analysis results to a physician.
- Make emergency visits to resolve equipment problems when necessary and order repairs when required.
- Explain health care treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation.
- Check pulmonary function in patients.
- Provide care with cardiac and pulmonary rehab.
- Pulmonary Function Testing.
- Other duties defined by the role.
- Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program or technical college course for respiratory therapy.
- Current RCP license in the state of practice.
- Respiratory care, emergency care, and intensive care experience.
- Must possess a valid and current driver license and auto insurance.
- Current BLS and/or CPR and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
