The Adair County Health System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist. This is a full-time position with hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. There are no weekends, holidays, or on-call requirements. Strong knowledge of pulmonary function and pulmonary rehabilitation, along with experience with respiratory equipment, are essential to success in this role.

Essential Functions
  • Monitor patient physiological responses to therapy, such as arterial blood gases, vital signs, blood chemistry, and lung function changes, and consult with physicians if adverse reactions occur.
  • Set up and operate devices including therapeutic gas administration apparatus and mechanical ventilators; provide emergency care such as external cardiac massage, artificial respiration, and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation; maintain charts containing patient identification and therapy information.
  • Collaborate with a team of health care professionals to manage patient care and assist with medical procedures.
  • Set up and operate devices including therapeutic gas administration apparatus, mechanical ventilators, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
  • Follow specified treatment parameters.
  • Inspect, test, clean, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Maintain charts that contain patient identification and therapy information.
  • Measure arterial blood gases, review prescriptions and other data (lung capacity) to assess patient condition.
  • Relay blood analysis results to a physician.
  • Make emergency visits to resolve equipment problems when necessary and order repairs when required.
  • Explain health care treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation.
  • Check pulmonary function in patients.
  • Provide care with cardiac and pulmonary rehab.
  • Pulmonary Function Testing.
  • Other duties defined by the role.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program or technical college course for respiratory therapy.
  • Current RCP license in the state of practice.
  • Respiratory care, emergency care, and intensive care experience.
  • Must possess a valid and current driver license and auto insurance.
  • Current BLS and/or CPR and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
