Job Summary

Perform day to day tasks to maintain a clean environment in a health care organization. Work independently or in a team environment ensuring the use of equipment, methods, and techniques to handle laundry safely and appropriately, such as sorting, washing, chemical application, or water temperature. Follow infection prevention guidelines to handle contaminated laundry according to organizational and healthcare industrial laundry standards.

Participate in laundry collection and sorting, as well as handling, storing and distributing clean laundry properly based on location standard processes and policies. Collect dirty linens (including gowns, sheets, towels, blankets, and personal clothing) from wards, rooms, and medical offices; distribute clean and disinfected linens. Complete washing, drying, folding linens, sort and fold clothing, and complete proper labeling for the designated health care organization.

Store and secure laundry supplies and equipment of a healthcare organization. Use all required PPE as outlined. Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. Ability to lift and/or move up to 30‑50 lbs and push/pull up to 500 lbs on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.

This position requires remaining on feet for the majority of the shift. May be exposed to certain noise levels with equipment in operation. Work hours may vary depending on patient needs and may include overtime, call backup, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to use a computer, prior cleaning experience in a healthcare setting, knowledge of materials, equipment and methods used in cleaning is helpful.
  • Depending on location, must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
